Hamilton edges BC
Football Betting Lines
07/11/2009 - Vancouver, BC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - DeAndra' Cobb rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries and caught a 48-yard touchdown pass, and Geoff Tisdale ran back an interception for a score to help carry Hamilton to a hard-fought 31-28 victory over the Lions at BC Place Stadium.
Quinton Porter had a TD on the ground and through the air to go with 222 passing yards on 19-of-24 efficiency for the Tiger-Cats (1-1), who were coming off a 30-17 loss to the Argonauts in the season opener and hadn't won at British Columbia since 2004.
Cobb and Chris Davis each caught five balls for 75 and 47 yards, respectively.
Buck Pierce logged 333 passing yards on 26-of-40 throws and threw three touchdowns, but his two interceptions proved costly for BC (0-2), which dropped a 28-24 decision to the Roughriders last week.
Martell Mallett recorded 82 rushing yards on 16 carries, and Geroy Simon paced the receiving corps with seven receptions for 86 yards and a score in defeat.
Tisdale changed game's momentum just after halftime, stepping in front of an errant Pierce pass and taking it 43 yards the other way for a 21-14 lead roughly five minutes into the third. The margin moved to 10 when Nick Setta booted a 27-yard field goal later in the quarter.
The Lions made it a one-possession game with Jarious Jackson's one-yard sneak over the goal line early in the fourth, but Cobb broke several tackles en route to a 48-yard touchdown reception with just under nine minutes to play.
Emmanuel Arceneux came down with a 42-yard bomb from Pierce with two minutes remaining to give the hosts one last chance.
The Lions got the ball back at their own 36-yard line with 1:16 left and Pierce moved the ball into enemy territory with a long scramble.
But on the very next play, former Lion Otis Floyd stepped back into coverage and picked off a Pierce pass, sealing Hamilton's impressive road win.
Setta knocked in a 51-yard field goal to open the game's scoring, and Pierce answered by hitting Paris Jackson on a 29-yard touchdown pass with 5 1/2 minutes to play in the first quarter for a 6-3 BC lead.
A Setta single was followed by a seven-play, 75-yard drive from the Lions, capped when Pierce hooked up with Simon on a five-yard out at the end of the opening quarter.
Hamilton followed a Paul McCallum single with a 75-yard drive of its own in the second stanza, with Porter rushing for a 13-yard touchdown midway through.
Setta's 42-yard field goal tied the score with just over two minutes to go in the half.
Game Notes
McCallum injured his right knee early in the second half and did not return...Last season, the Lions swept both contests in the series, first by claiming a 35-12 decision in early September and then an even more lopsided 40-10 final later the same month...Mallett also had 82 yards on six catches.

Michael Vick is back, Brett Favre isn't and the NFC East remains the best division in the NFC, maybe in all of football.
As players start to gather for the start of another season, some things change and some stay the same in the world of the NFL.
The NFC East has been the dominant division in the National Conference for a while, despite limited playoff success, save for the New York Giants surprise Super Bowl win two seasons ago.
Hell, there's a generation of kids in Texas who have never seen the Cowboys win a playoff game (last win was in 1996).
But collectively, the Giants, Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins (well, maybe not so much the Redskins) are as good as a division gets in an NFC conference that has struggled to stay competitive with the AFC side.
Sports bettors have both acknowledged the NFC East's dominance, as one glance at the NFL future odds menu will show.
Looking over the NFL betting odds at online sports book MySportsbook.com we see the top three teams listed to win the NFC Championship are all from the NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys - 7 - 1
Philadelphia Eagles - 13 - 2
New York Giants - 9 - 2
Slotting in behind these three are two teams from the NFC North: the Minnesota Vikings (15-2) and the Chicago Bears (10-1).
Again, despite the lack of recent playoff success, the Dallas Cowboys are popular with the sports betting community, as they hold 14% of all the money wagered on who will win the NFC Championship.
So far, the New York Giants are the bettors' favorite to represent their conference in the Super Bowl, as they have 24% of the overall NFC Championship betting volume.
And what about the Philadelphia Eagles? For the most part, the Eagles had a very productive offseason, the kind that could bring them back to the top.
They had a good draft adding the likes of WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy.
Unfortunately, the team received a blow when long-time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away on Tuesday.
But this team will make a real run at the division title this year. Going into the regular season, Philly is listed at +240 to win the division.
Last season the Eagles were 9-6-1 SU and 10-6 ATS.
Teams from the NFC East will play teams from the AFC West in the regular season and the Eagles haven't really been a good bet in the last 20 games against the likes of San Diego, Oakland, K.C. and Denver, only going 8-12 ATS.
Two seasons removed from that Super Bowl title, the New York Giants see themselves listed as the odds-on favorite in NFC East championship futures at +162.
Plaxico Burress is gone and with him all the bad publicity surrounding the gun in the sweatpants incident, but can they replace him in the offense?
Last season the Giants were a very reliable bet going 12-4 ATS.
In the Giants' last 20 games against fellow teams from the NFC East; they are 13-7 ATS.
Dallas is listed at +240 to win the division.
Dallas went 9-7 SU and 7-9 ATS last season and with the amount of talent the Cowboys have, a similar performance won't do.
The Cowboys have been atrocious against divisional rivals, going 6-14 ATS in their last 20.
The Washington Redskins are longshots to win the division at +550.
